Mangalore lies on the southern side of the Arabian Sea and is a lush and friendly town. The landscape is spotted with buildings topped with famous Mangalore red clay tiles. Mangalore is in close proximity to several important temples, including the Mangladevi temple that reputedly gave Mangalore its name and the dargah (mausoluem) of Seyyid Mohammed Shareeful Madani, which according to local legend, attracts any animal from anywhere in India that has been dedicated to the saint. Early morning hours resound to the melody of the church and temple bells as well as the call of the muezzin, bringing forth the cosmopolitan attitude and the diverse religions that exist here.
